Endnotes/MS Word Formatting July 17, 2007

In the midst of discovering deep understanding all of the competencies in the Leadership Program, there is also the mundane work of formatting our writing. Alas, Dr. Duane Covrig and Kevin Wiley’s session, Endnotes/MS Word Formatting, provided us tools and advice to assist us.
Endnote can help us organize our references and help us create reports. Our APA citations can be linked to MS Office Word documents.
Endnote has just come out with version XI. It is a bit frustrating or those of us that purchased version X in the past few months but, if you don’t have Endnotes, now is a good time to buy. It is less than a hundred bucks at the ITS Computer Store in the IS building.
For those of you that are early adopters of technology, Microsoft Office Word 2007 contains a bibliographic management feature. This is described in Create a Bibliography at the Microsoft Site (click here). This is for folks who boldly go where no one has gone before!
Our next important tool is Andrews University Standards for Written Work. If you are a wizard at APA style and have full confidence in writing in this style – STOP and LOOK at AU Standards! Duane walked us through the AU Rules for Subheadings. Here’s a good point to know – the Level 1 subheading is NOT the chapter heading. Once you know that, this section is easier to apply.
Duane walked us through modifying headings in MS Word 2003 to comply with APA and AU Standards. If you could not attend, the Leadership Web site has great links on style and formatting in the Dissertation section (click here). This is good stuff! I encourage you to visit and browse.
